Grass Tetany

We have had a few outbreaks of Grass Tetany at the moment. The problem usually occurs in older cows with young calves on them. Wind, rain and lower temperatures are the environmental factors. Pastures dominant with young grasses and cereals generally have lower magnesium and therefore cattle become susceptible.
First signs are dead cows so prevention is best. It takes only about half an hour for the first symptoms to death. Excitement, muscle spasms, frothing are some of the signs.
Causmag on feed, blocks and loose licks are the best methods of preventing the problem. See us to help with your program.
