Chilean Needle Grass – A Weed To Watch

I fortunately had the opportunity to go to a local GECKO run course last week on Chilean Needle Grass. This is a terrible weed that is extremely invasive and has no feed value. Its seeds can get into wool and skins to devalue out stock. It produces a large amount of seed, not only in the head as traditionally seed but also in the stem and it has basal seeds.
Have a look around to see if you have any. Isolate and spray the area if you have. We have more information in store from the meeting and also can help with identification – but this is one that we would ask that you don’t bring in samples as there is too much potential to spread the seed. Take photos and also grab some of the reading matter that we have.
